The Priestly Ministry

Priests celebrate the Eucharist, preach, teach, build community, challenge people to serve each other, fight for justice and stand by people in the most important moments of life and death.

In all of this they help assure people of the presence of God

The critical priestly ministry of the future will be to lead, to enable and to collaborate with others for the furtherance of the Kingdom.

Priesthood in the Archdiocese of San Antonio is both exciting and challenging. The Church in this part of Texas is growing rapidly and experiencing constantly changing needs.

Most Catholics here are Hispanic, which necessitates learning the language and traditions of this people in order to more effectively minister. Polish, Germans, Czechs and others who are descendants of immigrants live in both rural and urban areas. There is a large military population, as well as many people in the medical, educational and service fields.

The men called to the priesthood here will need to have the vision, energy and dedication to respond to this dynamic ministry.
